European operators first to feel full force of crunch

Just as Telecom Italia announces an extensive cost cutting initiative, industry analysts are warning that European mobile operators will be the first to feel the full impact of the credit crunch.

Telecom Italia outlines Eur5bn in cutbacks, savings

Italy’s Telecom Italia has announced plans to cut costs by around Eur2bn in 2009, as well as offload non core assets to the tune of a further Eur3bn. Part of the restructuring plan includes the slashing of a further 4,000 jobs in Italy.

Mobile network operators in Europe first to feel full force of credit crunch, says report

Europe has become the first regional mobile telecoms market to feel the impact of the credit crunch, according to a new report from global advisory and consulting firm Ovum.

Titled ‘Credit crunch jitters dawn on global mobile market’, Ovum’s report looked at the third quarter financial results of multiple mobile operators in all regions of the world, finding that Europe’s top mobile operators are the one that are beginning to feel the hit from the credit crunch. "Unlike other regions where the mobile market has proved resilient so far, the third quarter financial results of Europe’s top mobile operators show a marked, credit-crunch-induced deterioration in their performance," says Emeka Obiodu, senior analyst at Ovum and the lead author of the report.

Cautious retailers rejecting half of ‘free laptop’ sales after credit checks

Mobile broadband has seen exponential growth in 2008, yet in the face of the credit crunch mobile providers and retailers are turning away 50% of their business due to very stringent credit checks. During October and November broadband comparison site Broadband Expert said it had witnessed on average 1 in 2 sales sent to UK retailers offering a mobile broadband and free laptop deal rejected after running a credit check.

Three Hundred Layoffs At MTV Thursday?

Chatter about big layoffs at Viacom and its MTV unit have been in the air for weeks, with firings at the latter recently expected Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

ZAGREB (Reuters) – Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader asked his interior ministry Wednesday to investigate any possible abuse of police authority after a number of Web activists were detained.

In the last few days officers have held and questioned several Internet activists who were criticizing or ridiculing the government, local media reported.

 

 

Sanki neuništivi… prvo napraviš problem onda začuđeno pogledaš i kreneš ga rješavati. I kao onda si faca, a ako nešto zahebeš onda daš otkaz nekom ispod sebe … Tak bi i ja mogao biti premijer… ma što premijer, gospodar svemira. :-)
