Što je zajedničko HP-u, Ciscu ili Oracleu? Domari… :-)
SAN JOSE, CA (KGO) — Thousands of janitors working at the biggest Silicon Valley companies are on strike Tuesday; demanding the tech leaders take action to help the janitors make a livable wage.
The janitors who clean some of the signature buildings in the Silicon Valley and the Bay Area are on the picket lines. An estimated 6,000 union workers voted to strike after rejecting the latest offer from their companies.
At this time, we were told that janitors are walking out of Hewlet Packard and Oracle buildings. There are no new negotiations at this time, and Teamsters refused to cross the lines in order to pick up the trash at Cisco.
Janitors who would normally start work at 5 a.m. inside the Cisco building in San Jose reported to the picket lines instead. Janitors began a strike Tuesday against some of the most well known names in the tech industry. Elsa Guich, who immigrated from Peru, says a janitors make just $23,000 a year, which is not enough to live on in the Bay Area.
UK considers Big Brother database for phone and web users
20 May 2008
It has emerged this week that the UK government is mulling plans to build a monster database capable of holding the details of all phone calls, emails and internet sessions initiated by UK citizens.
The proposals appear to be an extension of 2006′s EU Data Retention Directive (DRD), which requires all ‘access providers’ to store call records and ‘event logs’ for a period of not less than six months and not longer than two years

On Monday 9 June Apple CEO Steve Jobs will walk on to the stage at the World Wide Developer Conference and reveal a new version of the iPhone that will totally blow the first away.
It’ll probably have 3G, more storage, support for Bluetooth stereo headphones and a much better digital camera and even video call support. And if current rumours are to be believed, O2 will make it absolutely, totally 100 per cent free. Sorry, how much did you pay for the iPhone again?

Last week a study revealed that US consumers are dropping their traditional phone service for mobile phones. A new study, however, says that plenty of other consumers are switching to VoIP services in record numbers. In both cases, it’s bad news for incumbent telcos.
The new results show just how bad the damage is. This graph, which we’ll refer to as "the crocodile," is one that you never want to see if you’re the industry that makes up the lower half of the croc’s jaw.
In a study released today, TeleGeography reports that VoIP usage in the US reached 16.3 million subscribers in Q1 2008. That’s 13.8 percent of all US households and 27 percent of all broadband customers. Not too shabby.
But it’s not standalone VoIP firms that are enticing all these customers away from the phone companies, unless they can find a way to offer more services. Over 80 percent of new VoIP subscribers take advantage of the "triple play" offerings from companies that bundle TV, Internet, and now VoIP services. This includes cable operators, obviously, but also the hugely-popular FiOS fiber optic connection from Verizon.
