Steve Jobs Stakes Out the TV Den
A week ago, the family was stuck on I-95 between Washington and New York for seven hours. The Meatgrinder, as it is affectionately known to us, had a little case of congestion and after five hours of quality time, we were reduced to silently hating the intermittent FM signal and the brake lights that framed our existence.
But after we hooked an Apple iPod to a doohickey that works with the radio, the car suddenly filled with an hour’s worth of storytelling from a podcast of “This American Life,” followed by some quality time with Taylor Swift, an improbably gifted teenage country star. The ability to program our temporary purgatory lifted the pall and before we knew it, we were home.
But once we went inside, we hit the halt button on Apple. There was the second season of “Friday Night Lights” on Netflix, “John Adams” from HBO on the digital video recorder and back copies of “Weeds” from Showtime, there for the plucking from the on-demand service.
While a lot of us carry a little bit of Steve Jobs around in our pocket, Apple is now after the remaining bit of life-share that it doesn’t already own, the home front.
Sjedenje ispred TV-a? Sorry, nemam vremena, a i ne djeluje mi kao jako konstruktivna zabava više kao…

Ehm…
Da, upravo sam čuo velevažnu izjavu glasnogovornice HAT-a koja je to objavila kao da je HAT vlastoručno oslobodio Hrvatsku od okupatora, a radi se o odluci staroj 2 mjeseca samo što je sad postala službena i na temelju koje se jedva nešto malo mogu spustiti cijene ali svejedno, spuštene su pa sad ako se pokaže da usluga ne funkcionira… hebga… ukinut će se. :-)
Problem je što je i sam HAT uvjeren da je napravio nešto, a u stvari nije napravio baš ništa osim što je nekoliko mjeseci zakasnio reagirati na HT-ovo dizanje brzine i spuštanje cijena ali… hej… eto teme za jeda duuuugački tekst sa grafikonima i kalkulacijama i troškovnikom koliko košta koji dio te famozne usluge, kolika su opterećenja i koliko to u stvari košta, a koliko se može zaraditi. Matematika ne laže.
Zasto tolika buka oko IPTV-a?
IPTV ima smisla samo u video on demand aplikacijama, a za sve ostalo bolji je standardni analogni ili DVB broadcasting koji osim sto bolje iskoristava bandwidth je pouzdaniji, skalabilniji i ne treba 2smjernu vezu.
My point exactly. IPTV je razbacivanje bandwidthom na jako neefikasan način uz vrlo upitne rezultate na većini parica ako ide preko bakra, kad bi samo streamao TV program, no bit i je u interaktivnoj TV i interaktivnim uslugama tipa NPVR, TimeShifting, VoD, interaktivne igrice, edukacija i sl.
