05 May 2008 Skopje _ Deutsche Telekom could gain a monopoly over Macedonia’s fixed and mobile phone services after it buys a Greek telecommunications provider.

The German-based company would then own the two main mobile operators in the country. Besides the main and freshly re-branded T-mobile, Deutsche Telekom would control the second largest company, Cosmofon, when it buys Greek company, OTE. This would give them control over 92% of mobile users in Macedonia.

In addition, the company would strengthen its already strong position in Macedonia’s fixed telephony market. Deutsche Telecom currently owns by far the largest fixed telephony operator in the country, Macedonian Telecom. With the acquisition it would also get the license for the “wi-max” technology for fixed telephony that Cosmofon possesses.

Macedonia’s parliamentary commission for competition says it will monitor the situation and if necessary, take legal action.

“If the new legal subject that is formed after the merger holds more than 45% of the market, the concentration would not be allowed,” the head of the commission, Cedomir Kraljevski told local Dnevnik newspaper on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Greek newspaper Imersia says Deutsche Telekom’s acquisition of OTE might happen this week as negotiations between the two companies and the Greek government, have progressed.

The Germans are interested in acquiring control over OTE’s mobile operator, Cosmote which has more than 15 million users in Greece, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria and Macedonia. OTE also owns 20% of the shares in Telecom Serbia.

In March, Deutsche Telecom bought 20% of OTE shares from Marfin Investment for €2.5 billion and became the second largest shareholder in the Greek telecommunications provider. The Greek government owns 28% of OTE shares.

Deutsche Telekom considering bid for Sprint Nextel

BERLIN: Deutsche Telekom is exploring the possibility of a bid for Sprint Nextel, the third-largest U.S. cellphone operator, a person close to the situation said Monday.
Sprint Nextel, based in Overland Park, Kansas, has a market value of more than $22 billion, but it has become a potential takeover target as its shares have slid about 62 percent over the last year.
The person close to the situation said Deutsche Telekom was considering an offer, but noted that no formal bid had been made and that none was expected in the next few days.

Nisam siguran da su naši polismeni pripucali onu zvijerku koja je popapala nekog pizdolisca u Zagrebu. OK, onog koji je zaklao lika su "uspavali"… hm… ali koliko sam shvatio iz vijesti nisu ga "uspavali" nego uspavali i zadržali na promatranju?!? Promatranju čega? Zašto? Što se tu ima promatrati osim preko nišana?

Da me ne shvatiti krivo, odrastao sam sa psima, uglavnom seterima i vjerujte mi svakom pa i najumiljatijem psu dođe žuta minuta. Čak i seterima, blentavim i simpatičnim, zaigranim psima sa velikim klempavim uhima. Garantiram, svakom psu. Držati psa koji jue već sam po sebi opasan… hm, hm… ne znam baš. Smijem li ja držati čopor vukova na svom gruntu? Pa ono, ako susjed svrati… a čuj….

Why Is An Internet Access Company Getting Into The Flower Business?

If you lived through the first dot com bubble, you probably remember the story of Zapata. This was the former fish-oil company that suddenly decided it wanted to become an internet powerhouse. It put out an unsolicited bid for Excite.com and later announced that it was willing to pay millions for totally random web-based startups to build into its own Zap.com portal. It was a laughingstock of the dot com bubble — highlighting a non-internet company’s rather hamfisted attempt to be thought of as an internet company. However, the news that United Online is buying flower company FTD feels like a Zapata-like moment — even if it’s in reverse. United Online, of course, was formed from the merger of NetZero and Juno, two dot com-era "free/cheap" dialup providers. A few years back, it also bought also-ran quasi-social networking site Classmates.com, and more recently failed to spin that off into an IPO. United Online also bought an online "loyalty" points provider, MyPoints, which again, seems rather unrelated to its other businesses.

Serbia’s Minister for Telecommunications and the Information Society, Aleksandra Smiljanic, has announced that the tender for awarding of WiMAX licences will be published in the coming 2-3 months. Three licences will be issued for each region, for a total of 25 regions. The exception will be Belgrade, for which only one licence will be available, as WiMAX licences there were already issued in 2005 to Verat, Media Work, Telekom Srbije and Telefonija. Providers will be required to cover 25 percent of the territory of the region in two years time and 60 percent after three years. They also have to guarantee minimum speeds of 256 Kbps per user.
