EU plans Web Site to help cut mobile phone charges "In spite of first signs of movement in the markets, the Commission is not satisfied that the prices to be paid by consumers already reflect the result of effective competition," the European Union executive said in a statement. "The Commission therefore will take measures to enhance the transparency of international mobile roaming charges to allow consumers the choice of the best offer." Selmayr warned that national regulators were still probing the sector to see if regulation is required, but on its own the Commission is not planning any regulation. The Commission’s plan to publish roaming charges comes as it continues to investigate the price of wholesale roaming charges in Germany and Britain between 1997 and 2003.
No bilo kako bilo, mobilni operatori zaradjuju sve manje i manje po korisniku bez obzira na sve djidje midje kojima ih obasipaju. I pored svih GPRS-a, MMS-a, melodija i svega ostaloga, korisnici i dalje mobitel vide kao SMS+voice ili "obicni" telefon (bas cudno).
Cell Phone Customers Put New Technologies on HoldTired of his monthly cell phone bill of 40 pounds (US$72.24), Peter Koenig, a London-based financial journalist, last summer switched from O2 to 3, a high-speed third-generation network run by the Hong Kong-based company Hutchison Whampoa. Third-generation telephony allows for data transmission up to 40 times faster than the previous generation of digital mobile voice networks, and telecommunications companies spent billions setting up 3G Latest News about 3G systems. With 3, Koenig lowered his monthly charges 38 percent, to 25 pounds (US$45.15). His plan included 500 minutes per month to any network in Britain at no additional charge, more than double what O2 provided. "I’m pretty happy with 3," Koenig said. When he signed on, the company sold Koenig a silver 3G handset made by LG Electronics for just 4.99 pounds (US$9.01). Without a subscription, the phone, which can take still photos and short video clips, as well as replay music, stream video and surf the Internet, would have cost about 85 pounds (US$153.49). "I take photos with my phone quite a bit, but I rarely send them to others," Koenig said. "What I tend to do is hold up the phone and show people the pictures." Alex Zadvorny, a senior analyst at Analysys, a London research firm, said the biggest recent innovation in mobile telephony is 3’s approach to selling plain old voice services. Since March 2003, it has attracted 7 million customers to its third-generation networks in European countries by offering easy-to-understand, flat- rate voice and SMS packages aimed at heavy users.
No opet, mozda i nece.
